Youth Mental Health First Aid is a set of courses that aim to train those who work or live with children and young people aged 8-18 years in how to support their mental health, provide help in an emergency and guide them towards appropriate support.
NEW in 2019 – Youth Mental Health First Aid Champions!
Based on the Youth Mental Health First Aid Two Day course, the Youth Mental Health First Aid Champions course has been designed specifically for teachers, support staff, youth workers, sports and activity coaches and parents/carers.
Outcomes of the course
Delegates will gain:
- an understanding of common mental health issues and how they can affect young people
- the ability to spot signs of mental ill health in young people and guide them to a place of support
- knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness
- skills to support positive wellbeing
Cathy Ardern, Sharon Daniel, Claire Elsdon and Louise Wall are instructors approved by MHFA England to deliver Youth MHFA courses within City of York Council. All four practitioners have extensive and current experience in supporting children and young people with mental health needs, and are able to reflect this experience in their delivery of the course.

Delegates must attend the full day to receive their certificate
Parking is not available at West Offices: delegates are therefore strongly advised to use public transport.
Cost: £118 per person (subsidised by CYC, RRP £200), which includes refreshments and the Youth MHFA One Day manual and workbook. Lunch is not provided.

The closing date for the course is 2 weeks before the course begins. Places on each course are limited to a maximum of 16 and delegates must be aged 16 years or over.
