Healthwatch has been set up across England to give patients, people who use services and local communities a strong voice in influencing decisions about health and social care services. Healthwatch York provides this service across the City of York Council area.

Healthwatch York is a small organisation with a wide remit. Our success as a team depends on all staff being flexible, co-operative and supportive of other staff members working in different roles.

You will lead on a wide range of activities aimed at helping people across York be heard in health and social care services. This includes leading on all aspects of communications work for Healthwatch York, managing the signposting, information and advice service Healthwatch York provides, and deputising for the Healthwatch York Manager. The role will be based at York CVS and involve some travel across the city.

You will have previous experience of working with diverse communities and developing partnerships, and of developing communication materials such as magazines, newsletters, and information guides. You will need excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

You will also need to demonstrate the ability to develop new areas of work, and implement systems, processes, and procedures, and will require good IT skills, including Microsoft Office software and MS Outlook. Previous experience of managing a team and/or providing line-management supervision and support is essential.

You will provide engagement support for Healthwatch York, coordinating a wide range of activities aimed at helping people across York be heard in health and social care services. This includes supporting Healthwatch York outreach activities, engaging directly with the public across the city, feeding back themes and issues to the Healthwatch York team, both verbally and through the use of digital databases. You will also provide guidance and support to the Healthwatch York volunteers undertaking information and signposting roles. The role will be based at York CVS and involve some travel across the city.

You will have previous experience of engagement work, supporting the development and delivery of events and engagement activities. You will be experienced at working with diverse communities, and passionate about supporting them to get their voice heard across health and social care.

We are seeking a dynamic Research Officer to lead our essential research and insight work. This is an exciting opportunity to support a successful organisation to gather local people’s experiences of health and social care services, and communicate these in a way that drives positive change across the health and social care system.

The successful applicant will take the lead on coordinating all research and insight projects for Healthwatch York. You will design and deliver a wide range of research initiatives aimed at gathering people’s views of health and social care services in York, analysing information received from a variety of sources to identify themes and trends. This will include writing accessible and engaging reports to present our findings, with recommendations that support service improvement inline with people’s feedback.

You will work closely with our Engagement Officer, overseeing their work, and provide guidance and support to the Healthwatch York volunteers undertaking research roles.

Previous experience of planning and coordinating research and engagement projects is essential, as is a broad understanding of research methodologies and techniques. You will have sound verbal and written commuinication skills, with the ability to develop communication materials that are accessible to a variety of audiences.  We have a vacancy for a highly experienced Childcare Practitioner at our nursery; based at the Priory Street Centre, located in York City Centre. The suitable candidate will be qualified to Level 2 or above with at least one years’ experience of working in a childcare setting.

We are looking for a Coordinator to continue and develop our local Time To Change Hub that will enable us to challenge myths surrounding mental health and enable a culture change where mental ill health is not feared or ignored but can be openly discussed; where being labelled with a mental health diagnosis is an enabler in a person’s life, not a disabler

The successful candidate will be responsible for raising awareness of mental health, recruiting and supporting a team of Time to Change Champions, organising events, administering a grants scheme and maintaining positive working relationships with key groups/organisations  locally and nationally.

YDAA is made up of around 50 organisations who have pledged to help to create a ‘dementia friendly York’, within a much wider network of contacts across all areas of the public, private and community sectors.

We are looking for a coordinator to help build on what has been achieved so far and further develop this exciting project.

The successful candidate will be responsible for raising awareness of the work we do, maintaining positive working relationships with key groups/organisations and keeping up to date with local, regional and national initiatives/ developments on dementia.

We are committed to ensuring people living with dementia and their carers are at the heart of every decision we make.
