The United Kingdom census is a ten yearly compulsory survey that gives the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. The information collected from the census helps inform local authorities and government about demands for vital public services such as schools, hospitals, GP services and social care provisions.

In 2021, the census will be ‘digital first’ and only accessible through an online platform. York CVS is part of a network of community organisations and libraries across England and Wales who want to provide people with support to complete their census online. This is an exciting opportunity to join the York CVS team for a fixed term project and make sure no one is excluded from the census.

The successful applicants will work together, and with the team at York Explore, to make sure York residents get access to technology at our centre to let them complete the census themselves. You will provide one to one support where needed. Dependent on the Covid-19 restrictions in place at the time of the census, this may be face to face or via the telephone.

Previous experience of working with and helping people is essential. You will have sound verbal and written communication skills. You will need excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
