Role description:
Using your lived experience of mental ill-health (this does not have to have a formal diagnosis) to help to end mental health stigma and discrimination in a variety of ways (e.g. blogs, vlogs, poems, radio appearances, press releases, zoom events) to suit you and to a variety of audiences (e.g. social media, workplaces, the general public, and health professionals). We provide a group of like minded people to campaign to end mental health stigma and discrimination in York. We have various sub-project groups that meet virtually (via zoom) during the evenings as well as day times. You are welcome to set up your own project as an individual and we will see if our Project Coordinator and / or fellow Champions (volunteers) are able to support your project idea to end mental health stigma and discrimination in York. You can volunteer as much or as little time as you like and this is a flexible volunteering role with one off tasks as well as regular commitments all to suit you and your availability.

Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Essential skills:Lived experience of mental health problems - these do not have to have a formal diagnosis and your experiences can be in the past or happening now.Willingness to share your experiences of mental health stigma and discrimination.Ability to communicate with others and to accept that other people's opinions may differ to yours.Responsibility for your own wellbeing - this is not a counselling or peer support group.
