Deaf Mentor

Lollipop is a York-based charity that offers social and emotional support to children, young people and their families with any degree of deafness from mild to profound. We are looking to recruit caring, supportive and enthusiastic volunteers with any degree of deafness to join the Lollipop team as mentors/role models to our junior and youth members (aged 8+).

As a volunteer mentor you will attend monthly drop-in sessions at our York-based youth club and/or day trips throughout York and North Yorkshire (typically 1 or 2 Saturdays a month during term-time with occasional events at other times – transport/expenses provided). You will work one-to-one or in groups, alongside our Mentor Supervisor and Activity Leaders, to build the confidence, resilience and self-esteem of our members, respond appropriately to their individual needs and help prepare them for adult life.

No experience needed as full training and supervision will be provided. Knowledge of BSL and/or experience of working with young people with additional needs desirable but not essential. If you are willing to share your time, skills and ideas to help our members reach their full potential, this could be the perfect volunteer role for you.
