Organisation Name: York Carers Centre
17 Priory Street, York, YO1 6ET
The role would be to support carers through our befriending, listening and sitting service. It would give volunteers the opportunity to provide carers with a companion, a listening ear and a break from their caring role. In regular circumstances this could be done by volunteers offering a couple of hours free time to take carers out, for example to a group, meeting, appointment, to the shops etc. Alternatively, by spending a few hours sitting with the cared for person while the carer goes out.
Currently however, as a result of the pandemic, carer contact is currently by phone and/or online provision.
These services aim to support carers who are lonely, isolated and in need of a few hours company or respite.

Communication, Interpersonal, Organisational, Admin and IT skills would be helpful
