Caring can affect anyone and it is suggested that approximately 60% of us will take on a caring role at some point. It’s highly likely we all know someone who is a carer, but they might not recognise themselves as one. So, what is the scale of those providing regular, unpaid help to someone close to them in the UK?
- The UK has over 3 million working carers
- Over the next 30 years the number of carers in the UK is set to rise from 6.5 million to 9 million
- 90% of working carers are aged 30 plus – employees in their prime employment years

Working Carers Need Support. Employers need to support working carers to combine work and care. Research has shown that for those that do it leads to staff retention, resilience and results. The key message is that it makes business sense to care for carers.
