Making a Lasting Difference – Sustaining organisations and their impact

What: One day workshop for non-profit organisations.
When: 10am – 4pm, Monday 11th November 2019
Where: Priory Street Centre, 15 Priory Street, York, YO1 6ET

With funding in decline and demand on the rise, charities, social enterprises and public services are struggling for survival and long-term sustainability. Based on the popular ‘Lasting Difference’ toolkit, this practical workshop introduces the paradoxes, principles and practices of sustainable organisations. We explore the most common sustainability challenges and why they are more manageable than we might think. The five ‘sustainability’ capabilities are also introduced, with time for participants to explore their own real-life sustainability challenge or question, among supportive peers:

  • Involvement
  • Income generation
  • Innovation
  • Improvement
  • Impact measurement

The event is particularly suitable for managers and project coordinators but it will also suit trustees, business development people or fundraisers, or anyone who wants to improve the sustainability of their project, organisation or sector. (The learning is just as valuable to membership bodies and funders). To get the most out of the workshop, we’ll ask you to download the Lasting Difference toolkit and complete the self-assessment in advance. This will prepare you for developing realistic sustainability plans for your project or organisation on completion of the course. By the end of the workshop, you will have:

  • Improved and widened your understanding of sustainability
  • Increased ability to think about sustainability in new ways
  • Gained access to new tools for working on sustainability
  • Increased ability to assess the sustainability of your project, organisation or sector
  • Increased ability to make plans for improving sustainability

The Lasting Difference is a programme hosted by Wren and Greyhound Limited. We are a small, forward-thinking management consultancy specialising in sustaining non-profit organisations and their impact since 2006. They aim to make a lasting difference to charities, funders, social enterprises and public bodies, helping them to do the same for the people and issues they serve.
Based in Scotland, we work across the UK with people who want to change the world. And we want to help them to do it. The Lasting Difference toolkit can therefore be downloaded and shared freely, something that has contributed to its use by over 5000 organisations all around the world.

The workshop will be led by one of our core team of experienced consultants, Graeme Reekie, Jen Curran and Laura Lebec, co-authors of the Lasting Difference toolkit. Graeme is also the author of ‘Making a Lasting Difference’, the recently-published book on the same topic available from the Directory of Social Change.
