We are the Buildings and Estates Team and it is our job to maintain the Priory Street Centre.

We think this is a great opportunity to give you all an update following on from our last article The Challenges of Maintaining a Grade II Listed Building.

Since our last update we have created a plan of priority works to be carried out on the Priory Street Centre over the coming months and beyond. We have also started an Eco-Project to make the Priory Street Centre a greener site.

Priority Works

We have identified a number of priority works which unless carried out run the risk of undermining the fabric of our building and storing up a larger expense.  With this background, the trustees have set aside significant monies to complete these essential building works. This includes the renovation of sandstone work to the replacing of ridge tiles.

Our challenge is to have this work completed in a timely, cost effective manner and to a high standard. Matt has already made great strides in this area and you will see the beginning of this journey starting to take shape in the next few months.

We will also be personally assisting in the works where we can to lighten the burden on contactors and quicken the process.

This will lead to a more secure, up-to-date site and continues our commitment to maintain and preserve our unique listed building.

Eco Project

As you may or may not know we are in the midst of our much anticipated Eco Project. It has been on our minds for quite some time that there is much to be gained from making the Priory Street Centre a greener site.

We started with a few initial ideas and subsequently held an eco-workgroup to discuss our options and share ideas.

What started with 3 or 4 ideas quickly became 21 at which point we realised that we are on the cusp of something significant and worthwhile.

We have since created a project plan (which we are more than happy to share) and spoken to professionals in the field. We have discovered a great deal of interesting things and inspirational ideas over the past few months which has really opened our eyes to what it means to be truly eco-friendly.

This project has very much been a collaboration between ourselves and the sector and we would like to thank everyone who has been involved so far.

Our end goal is to become an eco-model to the sector.

If anyone wants to contact us to discuss the projects or share ideas you can email us at buildingsestates@yorkcvs.org.uk it would be great to hear from you.
