Grant funding (up to a maximum of £10,000) available from the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) York Committee

This unsettling and turbulent time in our history is highlighting how much we all rely on each other in our society. While most of us will face some kind of change to our way of life during the coronavirus pandemic, we are not all in the same boat – people who were already struggling to stay afloat every day face being swept further and deeper into poverty.

As a funder, the JRHT York Committee knows that the response to the pandemic across York has been remarkable and that community organisations are doing everything they can to provide the much needed and valued support within our communities. The Committee also understand that many community organisations are worried for their futures, and for the people they support. Through its grant making and ‘funder plus’ model, the JRHT York Committee is committed to supporting local community organisations that can make a real difference for those in the city at risk of poverty and is pleased to re-open their community grant making programme for 2021.

If you are a local not-for-profit organisation and can answer any of the following questions then this grant funding programme might be for you:

  •  Are you helping to build and develop strong empowered communities without poverty or isolation in York?
  • Are you providing or enabling access to benefits advice, debt advice, support with developing financial capability, housing advice and information and advocacy for individuals experiencing or at risk of experiencing poverty?
  • Are you involved in a local community-based activity to prevent and reduce isolation where poverty is a contributing factor or barrier?

The next deadline for grant applications is 2.00pm on Thursday 3 December 2020. Applicants should expect to receive notification of the decision towards the end of February 2021.

Details on how to apply can be accessed via the following website. We welcome and encourage discussions about potential applications for either core organisational costs or project specific costs. Please contact Helen Robinson at or on 07736 977061 to arrange a discussion.
