Duty Service Co-ordinator 25 hours fixed term 12 months

Job Description:
Age UK York are recruiting for a new post of Duty Service Co-ordinator. This post will provide comprehensive day-to-day responsive professional support to Age UK York staff, volunteers and service users both on the telephone and in person. They will also provide administration support for the Age UK York Senior Management and Safeguarding Teams.
The post is fixed term for 12 months with a potential of being extended after this period.

Age UK York:
Age UK York is an independent local charity. Age UK York been working in the local community to help older people for nearly 50 years. We have 100 dedicated staff and over 400 volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in York.

Day to Day:
• The Duty Service Co-ordinator will be working 9.30am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday.

Tasks are to include:
• Prove administration support for the safeguarding team.
• Prepare and provide information and paperwork for the monthly Senior Management and Safeguarding team meetings and case reviews.
• Provide a positive and professional initial response to all service users and other professionals contacting Age UK York.
• Handle incoming referrals and communication from colleagues, service users and external organisations.
• Recruit, manage and support reception volunteers.
• Commitment to Age UK York’s confidentiality and Safeguarding policies
• To organise ‘one off/emergency volunteer’ support for service users as requested by Duty Manager.
• To support the organisational response to Extreme Weather Support.
• Responsible for carrying out fire and emergency procedures for the Walmgate office.
• Provide holiday or sickness cover to the First Call 50+ telephone information line when required.

Person Specification:
Essential Criteria
• Excellent communication and listening skills
• Experience of working alongside volunteers as colleagues
• Experience of working with databases and IT communication systems
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently and flexibly
• Excellent organisation and administrative skills
• Ability to empathise with older people
• Ability to work under pressure and to time scales
• Ability to respond to emergency situations

Desirable Criteria
• Experience of working with older people
• Commitment to promoting the rights of the individual
