Good Practice and Legal Issues

Voluntary and community organisations must comply with the law in the same way as any other person or organisation. Organisations need to be aware of their responsibilities under Health and Safety and Equal opportunities law; charity and/or company law depending on the type of organisation they are; employment law if they employ staff; and a whole range of other law and regulation depending on the type of work they are doing (for example, Child Protection, or protection of vulnerable adults).

The fact sheets below will point you in the right direction on some of the issues you may need to know about.

We also offer a free organisational ‘Health Check’ service, which can help you to identify if there are any areas of your organisation’s activities that need improvement in order to be ‘safe and legal’.

If you would like further information or advice on any of these topics, or to meet with a Development Worker, please ring 01904 621133 to arrange an appointment.

Sources of further information are also listed in the Help and Advice’ section.
