Why support York CVS

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

York CVS exists to support all voluntary and community groups active in York. The majority of the work we do with groups is free. We charge for some services where we need to cover our costs, for example, the payroll service, room hire and independent examination of accounts. However, we rely on grants, donations, and room hire revenue to fund our core work.

We have significant revenue from running the Priory Street Conference Centre and this is used to cover some, but not all, of the costs of running the centre and some of the free services we offer. To raise money to fill the revenue gap there are two obvious options:

  • to charge for the services directly, or
  • to raise membership fees to a much higher level.

We believe that doing either of the above will significantly and negatively impact just those organisations that most need our help. Online donations may be a third and viable option.

We hope that those organisations that have found our services helpful - and that can afford it - will contribute a small amount towards the maintenance of the organisation. Likewise, individuals who support our work might want to fund it in a small way.

With this kind of help from the voluntary and community sector and supporters in York we can continue to offer services for free to those organisations that can't afford it.
