Credit union seeks volunteers for its supervisory committee

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

Would you like to volunteer with a credit union (CU)?

CUs are an ethical source of financial services and help communities grow by keeping money in the local economy, as well as being a key player in tackling financial exclusion.

Could you contribute to the supervisory committee of the North Yorkshire CU (http://www.nycu.org.uk/)?

Committee members don't need specific qualifications, but you should have:
• the ability to understand and analyse financial statements with a level of complexity comparable to that of the credit union;
• an understanding of the application of generally accepted accounting principles especially with respect to estimates, accruals and reserves;
• experience in reviewing and assessing risk management processes and internal controls;
• an understanding of audit committee functions;
• an ability to communicate well with people;
• to be competent in computer use.

The tasks of a committee member include:
• attendance at a monthly committee meeting;
• attendance at board meetings on a rotational basis, 2 or 3 times a year;
• appointing auditors;
• checking with members they are satisfied with the service;
• occasional visits to the office to ensure proper processes are in place and working well.

Training & support is available.
