BTCV BUGG PROJECT needs young volunteers
BTCV BUGG (BUDDY UP GREEN GROUP) PROJECT:
BUGG is a BTCV project in which able bodied and disabled young people get together to enjoy a variety of different environmental projects. Bugg helps break down barriers between able-bodied and disabled groups, improving social skills and health and fitness at the same time.
Students will be expected to work with a variety of disabled young people in various environmental projects offering, help, support and encouragement.
Students wishing to get involved with project are encouraged to take a leading role. This will mean sourcing and organising activities, liaising with other students and groups as well as BTCV staff, and taking part in the projects they set up.
Below are a few activity days we have coming up. If you would like to get involved please contact BTCV by the 6th February, see contact details below. If you can’t get involved on these dates join our mailing list to be informed about future events.
Wednesday 22nd February: (11:00 till 14:00)
Proposed task is to clear and tidy the sleeper path allotment garden. Decide what we want to build the following week, possible options are bat boxes, bird boxes, hedgehog homes, bug habitats, planters, hanging baskets etc. We will also decide if we are building for the sleeper path allotment or to distribute elsewhere. We will discuss what we would like to plant for the final weeks session.
Wednesday 7th March: (11:00 till 14:00)
We will be building/making some of the following bat boxes, bird boxes, hedgehog homes, bug habitats, planters, and hanging baskets. It will have been decided on the first week (22/02/12) what we think will be best to make in terms of need and resources and practicality (this will hopefully be a joint decision between the volunteers and the people we will be working with). Initially we will be building equipment for the garden however this can be continued so we are supplying habitat homes and planters etc to other neglected community groups/areas etc.
We will also discuss ideas for what we would like to grow at the allotment for the following week’s task.
Wednesday 14th March: (11:00 till 14:00)
Get Growing! Planting of vegetables and fruits for coming months, possibly wild flowers and interesting plants to improve the allotment area.
There will be an informal basic disability awareness seminar before the tasks for anyone who wishes to attend, date to be arranged.
