Are you in contact with carers?

Carers who look after a family member, or partner, and who live in York, are being asked to get involved in a review being undertaken by City of York Council and N. Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust, on their services for carers, and Selby and York Carers Centre.  Feedback information will be collated and used in the review, which is due to report in September 2007.

There are two ways for carers to get involved.

York Carers Forum is inviting all family or informal carers to a meeting entitled "What are the priorities for carer services in York?" on Wednesday 18th July 2007 at City Mills, Skeldergate, York.  The meeting will run twice, from 10.30 - 12.30 and again in the afternoon from 1-3pm, to give carers a choice of when is most convenient to them. Lunch is available for everyone at 12.30.

And/or

Carers can complete a questionnaire, which asks about priorities for carers and comments on carers’ services. This needs completing by 13th July 2007, and a freepost envelope is supplied with the form.

If you would like copies of the questionnaire, invite and booking form to pass to the family or informal carers you are in contact with, please contact Frances Perry, Carers Strategy Manager, tel: 01904 554188 or email: frances.perry@york.gov.uk

·        A copy of the service user and carer standards agreed within the community engagement group.

·        Space for responses to these questions and any other comments or concerns community members may have.

What needs to happen now?

·        As a forum group member and representative of your community group we would like you to share this pack with your groups. download this here

Local Area Agreement - consultation

City of York Council and the Without Walls Partnership are consulting on the development of York's Local Area Agreement, and are inviting comments on the proposed priority 'outcomes' for York's LAA. You may want to comment on the proposed outcomes (Are they the right ones? Are there other local priorities that should be included?); on how the work of your organisation or group contributes to achieving these outcomes; or on ways in which your organisation might contribute to these outcomes in the future.

These documents provide background information:
1.LLA Briefing - What are LAAs
2.Powerpoint Presentation - What the York LAA is all about & timelines for process
This is the proposed 'outcomes' for York's Local Area Agreement. There is a separate spreadsheet tab for each of the four LAA blocks and each of the three cross-cutting themes.

 3. GOYH July Submission (spreadsheet) - the 1st draft of proposed LAA outcomes & indicators for each of the York blocks
This is the template for comments on the outcomes. It follows the same structure as the outcomes spreadsheet. You can put your comments in the relevant part of the template. You don't have to use the template if you prefer to just write your comments.
There is a consultation meeting for voluntary and community organisations to discuss the local Area Agreement and the proposed outcomes, on the morning of Wednesday 23rd August at the Priory Street Centre - please ring 01904 621133 to let us know if you are planning to attend. Lunch is provided.
Please send in any comments to Colin Stroud at York CVS, Priory street Centre, 15 Priory Street York YO1 6ET, email colin.stroud@yorkcvs.org.uk, before 23rd August.

Description of Consultation

The Council is seeking the views of voluntary and community organisations on the level of Council Tax and budget for 2006/2007.  Income from Council Tax pays for approximately one third of council services so the level at which this is set can make a big difference to local services. York residents are being asked whether:

  • they are prepared to pay an increase of between 5 and 7% to protect existing services and fund some new services,
  • or if they prefer a lower than 5% increase.  If they chose this lower option they are being asked which services they may be prepared to see cuts in.

Background information on the budget and the residents poll can be found at www.york.gov.uk/council/budget/consultation.html . This site will be updated with more detailed proposals before Christmas.

Please give the Council your views on the council budget and/or council tax options by emailing these to  sue.poole@york.gov.uk including your organisation name and/ or the interest group or service area your organisation represents. These responses will be included at the consultation meeting between the Council and the York Compact Group in January.
