York Compact

The York Compact is an agreement governing the relationship between local statutory and voluntary sector agencies in York.

It has been drawn up following extensive consultation between the voluntary and community sector and local statutory agencies. It aims to recognise the diversity of the voluntary and community sector and to set out a framework to enhance the relationship between local statutory agencies and the sector.

The agreement recognises that the local statutory agencies and the voluntary and community sector in York share similar values and have a number of complementary functions. It has been developed as a means of improving all parties’ understanding of each other and enhancing their relationship.  The agreement expresses the commitment of local statutory agencies and the voluntary and community sector to work in partnership for the betterment of society, to nurture and support voluntary and community activity and to jointly influence national policy where appropriate. The compact sets out the key principles and undertakings which should underpin the relationship between the various partners.
