Code of Good Governance for smaller organisations launched

‘Good Governance – a code for the voluntary and community sector: smaller organisation version’ was launched during Trustees Week, to provides a framework for smaller organisations to govern in a way that is appropriate to their size.

New Publication: At Your Bidding - Guide for Trustees about Commissioning and Tendering

NAVCA and the Local Government Association have launched a new free publication called At Your Bidding to mark Trustees' Week (31 October - 6 November).

Controversial changes for Employment Tribunal claims

The qualifying period for the right to bring a claim for unfair dismissal will be extended from one to two years on 6 April 2012.  This means that only after working for the same employer for two years or more will an employee be able to bring a claim for unfair dismissal.

Trustees Week: 31 Oct to 6 Nov

This is an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference - no formal qualifications are usually needed, and many charities need more trustees.

BBC launches new learning campaign

The BBC has launched a new learning campaign as part of the development of a new programme aiming to capture life in Britain.
 
As part of the BBC's Cultural Olympiad, 'Britain In A Day' will take contributions from the public about their lives on 12 November this year.
 
People will be asked to film themselves and put the video online for the project which is in conjunction with Sir Ridley Scott's production company.

Literacy, Language and Numeracy (LLN) Starter Kits

LSIS has developed a new toolkit, designed to support voluntary and community organisations to respond to the literacy, language, communication and numeracy skills needs of their service users, staff and volunteers. The TSNLA (Third Sector National Learning Alliance) and other third sector organisations were involved in road testing this toolkit.

 

Delays to new CIO legal structure

There have been further delays to implementing the new legal structure, Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). It's now expected to be available in early 2012.
 
The new structure will only be available to new charities at first, so established charities that want to convert will have to wait longer.
 
Nick Hurd states: "The draft secondary legislation needed to complete the legal framework for the Charitable Incorporated Organisation is currently being finalised.
