Toft Fair 7th July and Red Tower Fair 21st July

York charity Friends of York Walls have not one, but TWO exciting community events coming up!

On 7th July you are invited to join the fun at Toft Green, adjacent to Micklegate Bar, where there will be all kinds of entertainments and attractions including live music, dancing and games.

But don't worry if you can't make it on 7th - or indeed if you enjoy it so much you can't wait for more - because just two weeks later, on 21st July, there will be another fun-packed afternoon at the Red Tower (off Foss Islands Road)!

Both events run from 2pm.

 

YHCOSA- become a Circle Volunteer and help support ex-offenders

YHCOSA (Yorkshire and Humberside Circles of Support and Accountability) is a community response to sexual offending, working in partnership with criminal justice agencies.

We are currently recruiting Circle Volunteers to support our work.

Khaoz Media seek Social Media Co-ordinator

Khaoz Media is an accessible and inclusive youth-led voluntary and community youth media production team in York for young people aged 16-25.
We engage young people in community action projects through community media and new technologies.
We encourage creativity through innovative uses of media and new technologies and provide positive activities for young people to make positive contributions to local communities.

The Macmillan Charity Raceday is the perfect way to mix a day out filled with glamour and excitement with a chance to help a great cause. The popular event attracts 30,000 people and has raised over £5.2 million for Macmillan to date.

Yorkshire Know Your HIV Status Day is launched!

A quarter of people living with HIV do not know that they have the virus. Knowing if you are HIV positive or negative enables you to make confident choices about your health and gain peace of mind. Yorkshire MESMAC is launching the first Yorkshire Know Your HIV Status Day on 7th June 2012 to encourage everyone living in Yorkshire to know their HIV status and get tested.
The sooner you know your status the better. An earlier diagnosis gives you access to the healthcare you may need and allows you to protect your sexual partners as well. 

A Lottery Awards for All grant has recently been received by Poppleton Road Hall

A Lottery Awards for All grant has recently been received by Poppleton Road Hall. This will screen and soundproof the first floor meeting room and its balcony access, enabling this room plus the main auditorium to be separately hired at the same time. There is wifi throughout the building. The main auditorium close seats approx 100, with mobility restricted access, a hearing loop  plus an overhead projector with drop down screen. Hire is £13 per hour including heating with a concessionary rate for 3 hours and regular hirers.

Local Mental Health Awareness campaign goes global

Despite the fact that and estimated 1 in 6 people working age adults in Britain are currently suffering from some form mental ill-health, it’s still an issue that many people don’t feel comfortable talking about. A recent campaign my a York based mental health charity is looking to change all that, with a simple message and a Facebook campaign that’s already sweeping the globe.
